DIY Texture Beach Hair Spray | Leave a comment

By Ashley Devonish | Category: It Worked 4 Me, Moneywi$e, Surprize Me!, The Journey of Motherhood

I have naturally curly hair but sometimes when I do a deep conditioning, even I need help increasing the curls and texture. I started doing research on a good beachy texture spray and found that they all are just made with salt so why not do an easy DIY.

DIY Beach Spray Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of hot water (not boiling)- Can also use strong Chamomile Tea as the base if you want to lighten hair or black tea as the base if you want to darken hair, but you will need to keep in the fridge.

  • 2 tablespoons epsom salt (or more for extra texture)

  • 1/2 tsp Himalayan or Sea Salt (optional but adds stiffness)

  • 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel

  • 1/2 tsp conditioner or a few drops of almond oil or jajoba oil

  • Optional: a few drops of essential oils or a spritz of your favorite perfume for scent- Lavender and citrus are great options

  • Optional: 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon vodka or alcohol- if you want to lighten hair (the lemon juice lightens and the alcohol preserves)

How to Make:

Get a spray bottle that holds at least 10 ounces. I used a glass bottle made from an old apple cider vinegar bottle and a regular spray top. I also tripled the recipe to accommodate the size of my bottle. Put the hot water (or tea) in the spray bottle and add the epsom salts, sea salt (optional), aloe vera, conditioner, scent (optional) and lemon juice/vodka (if using). Put the cap on the bottle and shake for 1-2 minutes or until epsom salts and sea salt are dissolved. Store in the fridge if using lemon juice or tea base, or at room temperature if you aren’t. Will last 3-4 months or longer.

I found that the spray works great. Be careful though not to spray too much. It almost makes your hair feel dirty, I guess thats to give it some texture but just be careful not to over do it. If you have soft curly hair like me, I just spray near my roots to give me that extra volume boost.

Let me know if you try it!

Mondays with Dom – Happy Kid | 1 Comment

By Ashley Devonish | Category: Mondays with Dom, The Journey of Motherhood

These days I am really enjoying my happy baby…sorry kid. My husband keeps reminding me that he is no longer a baby. :-( None the less, I really am enjoying this age. He is so happy and loves to giggle and play. We have a good time!

And for the record, he will always be my baby :-)

New Year’s Resolution Play List | Leave a comment

By Ashley Devonish | Category: Favorite Lists, Fit 4 Life, Healthy Living, The Journey of Motherhood

So for most of us who ate entirely too much during the holidays, getting in shape in 2014 is definitely top priority. So in preparation for my return to consistent work outs, I am putting together some of my favorites together on a workout playlist. I love to listen to music during my work outs. To be honest, I am happy to return to working out, I feel like since my birthday in early November, it’s just been impossible to stay consistent. Let’s hope the music helps because I know the workout is going to hurt…

MY TOP 10 WORKOUT SONGS

10. “Let Me Clear My Throat” – Public Domain

9. “Put On” – Young Jeezy and Kanye West

8. “Don’t Stop the Music” – Rihanna

7.”Touch My Body” (Remix) – Mariah Carey

6. “Pretty Young thing, p.y.t” – Michael Jackson

5. “Fergalicious” – Fergie

4. “Party Like a Rock Star” – Shop Boyz

3. “Come to Me” (feat. Nicole Scherzinger) – Diddy

2.”Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” – Gloria Estefan

1. “Upgrade U” – Beyonce

Share with me some of your favorite songs. What gets you motivated?

By Ashley Devonish | Category: Mondays with Dom, Surprize Me!, The Journey of Motherhood

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season. My family had an amazing Christmas and an uneventful but fun New Years Eve. I am sad that its over but am kind of excited for 2014 and whatever it brings! Having said that….Mondays with Dom is returning. Below is a picture from NYE. Dominic decided to get in on the action and wear his party hat (even though it was only 3pm)

Have a great week! :-)
